Walker’s Croft
This section of Walkers Croft followed the north bank of the River Irk; it was originally a public riverside road serving industrial premises near Ducie Bridge.
Now gated and private, Walker’s Croft has been blocked off. It only serves as an access to the New School Building of Chetham’s School of Music on the right of the photograph, and to the lower basement of Victoria Buildings on the opposite side of Victoria Station Approach.
The New School Building is linked to the older buildings of Chetham’s School of Music by a footbridge over Walker’s Croft constructed from weathering steel, and the culverted River Irk flows under the garden to the left of the steps.
