Peak Alum Works

Peak Alum Works occupy a site on the coastal cliffs west of Ravenscar in Yorkshire. They were in use (not continuously) from c.1650 until 1862. Alum was produced from shale quarried from the hillsides to the south of the site. The remains on the site (a scheduled monument) date from the nineteenth century.
