The Redheugh Bridge, Gateshead
The Redheugh Bridge, Gateshead
Road bridge over the River Tyne, pictured from the Gateshead side, This reinforced concrete structure was designed by Mott, Hay and Anderson and the main contractor was Nuthall/HBM. The bridge replaced a steel bridge of 1901 and opened in 1983. The open deck design and high elevation over the river has led to problems, with the bridge having to be closed in certain high wind conditions.
