Newly restored 4588 at Buckfastleigh, 1971
GWR 'Small Prairie' 4588 (built 1927, withdrawn 1962) ended up in Barry scrapyard and was bought by the Dart Valley Railway Association - one of the earliest locos to be saved from there. It was overhauled at Swindon Works in 1971 and returned to the DVR shortly before my photo. It wasn't in steam unfortunately. It wasn't to spend much time on the Dart Valley branch because by April 1973 it had been transferred to the Kingswear line, see: SX8860 : 4588 leaves Paignton for Kingswear.
