Cyclamen hederifolium seed capsules
Cyclamen hederifolium seed capsules
Ivy-leaved Cyclamen have their flowers on long, straight stalks SO8610 : Painswick Rococo Gardens - Cyclamen. I did not know that once the flower is fertilised the developing seed capsule contracts by its stalk 'coiling' to bring the globose capsule, with its ripe seeds, nearer to the soil before it opens. Apparently the seeds are dispersed by ants. There is a seed in the open capsule at lower right and others on the soil. See another image six weeks later of the plants in flower NT2470 : Cyclamen hederifolium - sequel.
