Glenduff Castle, Glenduff, Co. Limerick (1)
A large multiple bay two storey country house that was built in c.1840, incorporating at its northern end a tower house of c.1600, with a matching replica tower to the south. The old castle was bought by the Stavely family in 1755, who in 1814 continued in residence, although by the early 1850s, Eyre Massy occupied it. It was the Ievers family of Mountievers however who expanded and remodelled the house under C. F. Anderson, and who were in residence during 'The Troubles' of 1916 - 1923. Like so many properties then, the house suffered during the bitter civil war, when it was burnt in 1922. Despite having remained a ruin ever since, it was gratifying however to see that the ivy that had previously engulfed the building, has since been successfully removed.
