TG3117 : Wroxham Broad
taken 6 months ago, near to Hoveton, Norfolk, England
Wroxham Broad has an area of 34.4 hectares and a mean depth of 1.3 metres. It lies to the west of the River Bure, with two navigable openings between river and broad. The broad is popular for sailing and is the home of the Norfolk Broads Yacht Club. It is also an important habitat for broadland flora and fauna.
The River Bure rises near Melton Constable, 11 miles upstream of Aylsham, which was the original head of navigation. Most of its length lies within the Norfolk Broads. Nowadays, the head of navigation is 10 miles downstream at Coltishall Bridge and it flows to Great Yarmouth where it meets Breydon Water and flows into the sea at Gorleston.
