The roof at the Borders General Hospital
The roof at the Borders General Hospital
This is part of the flat roof over the three main floor levels of the hospital with the Eildon Hills in the background. There are several plant rooms on the roof and the red profile sheeted link between the plant rooms is called 'The Snake'. This runs the entire length of the building and contains all the essential service pipework that keeps the hospital operational. The mastic asphalt roof is 11.3m (37 feet) above ground level and is finished with a layer of reflective chips.
