North portal, Ardsley Tunnel
The Midland Railway built this branch line between Cudworth and Stairfoot in 1899. It closed in 1964 and the tunnel was abandoned. When the line reopened in 1967 it bypassed the tunnel with a new link to the former Hull and Barnsley Railway.
