On Main Street – Grassington, North Yorkshire
Grassington was, until 1875, a centre of the lead mining industry and traces of this can still be found on the moors around the village. A railway line was opened in 1901 from Skipton but this closed in 1930. A parish church is one feature missing from the village but this is because it comes under the parish of Linton. Garrs Lane shows the origin of the village name – from the 7th and 8th century fields of the earliest settlers. Thanks are due to Bob Harvey and David Pugh for locating this one.
