TL1306 : Lake through the Wall

taken 2 months ago, near to St Albans, Hertfordshire, England

Lake through the Wall
Lake through the Wall
A very short length of the wall the Romans built around their city, Verulamium.
After the Roman city in the valley fell into decay, most of the masonry was taken to build the new medieval town of St Albans on higher ground on the other side of the river.
It is thought that this length survived because it was still in use as part of another building.
