The Brace Bridge
Lincoln's Brace Bridge
This bridge over the River Witham is named by the Ordnance Survey as "Brace Bridge". I am not sure if this is a backformation from the adjacent settlement of Bracebridge. But the origin of that name is given as Old English braesc + brycg, meaning 'bridge or causeway made of branches'. So, perhaps, there has always been a bridge of that name somewhere round here.
The bridge carries the Lincoln to Newark traffic, historically the A46 road (that name is now carried on the bypass round Lincoln).
