'Steam train near Newbridge'SE8085 : Steam train near Newbridge'The photo description is a little inaccurate. The main engine shed and works are at Grosmont at the other end of the line. To save having to open the line too early or close it rather late, the engine of the last train of the day from Grosmont to Pickering is kept securely overnight in 'light steam' in the fenced compound to make it available at Pickering the next morning, thus eliminating two 'light engine' trips. So a more accurate title of this photo might be 'Steam Engine Storage Area'.
(It is not clear if this photo is of a engine being 'put to bed' at the end of the day or being brought into full steam at the start of the day!)
