A Grade I ambulatory
A Grade I ambulatory
Horton Court has a long and varied history. Whilst originally started in the Norman era, much is sixteenth century with subsequent additions. This ambulatory was part of William Knight's residence; Knight was a prominent cleric who studied abroad (chiefly in Ferrara in modern Italy). It is thought he brought his classical experiences back and had this ambulatory built to accompany the rest of the house. Although it is now separate from the rest of it, the belief is that it was originally extended right to the west end.
