When the second edition of the Ordnance Survey Six-inch map of the area was published in 1898 a, 'Quarry Inn' stood on or in the immediate vicinity of the current building and adjacent to a small quarry, but not the one now known as, 'Marden Quarry Nature Reserve'. At that time it was named on the map as 'Reservoir (North Shields Water Works)'. The current building underwent a major makeover in 2018.
