Barns Bridge, ECN4/274, Craig Road, Ferryden, Angus
The photo shows a northeast view of Barns Bridge, ECN4/274, which crosses the railway cutting beside the road intersection of Craig Road and the signposted road to Usan on the outskirts of Ferryden. When Burns and Nicol were travelling through this area on the 13th of September 1787, the land would have been used for farming, but since then there have been major land use changes that have transformed its appearance. Those changes include the opening of the North British Railway Line from Arbroath to Montrose on 1st May 1883, the opening of the King George Playing Field on 15th July 1949 in the vicinity of the grassy verge opposite the parked van in the photo, and the building of houses, some of which have solar panels on the roofs.
