Castle Mill and the River Nidd, Knaresborough
The mill opened in 1764 and closed in 1972. It was a flax (linen) mill, originally powered by water held back by the weir alongside. When steam power replaced water power in the mid 1800s, the local linen industry declined, because of the high price of coal locally.
