Trees alongside the old course of the Derwent
The photographer is standing near the present course of the Derwent, looking across Wheldrake Ings. Wheldrake Ings are managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and form part of the Lower Derwent Valley national nature reserve. 'Ings' are meadows that regularly flood. The fields produce hay in the summer but turn into wetlands in the winter.
