Galen House is located on the corner of Low Friar Street and Dispensary Lane. The building dates from c.1901 and was designed by Matthew Horner Graham and built for George G. Laidlaw. Three corners of the building have distinctive octagonal towers with round windows. It was originally a medicine factory and named after Claudius Galen, who was the father of the experimental method in medical investigation. It was later converted into 62 furnished apartments and is on the Local List of Buildings of Local Architectural or Historic Interest for Newcastle upon Tyne.
