Remembrance Day
Swathes of crosses in the grass by the Scott Monument commemorate those who have died in war. Several buildings in the city centre, and many of the trees in Princes Street Gardens, are floodlit in red as part of the Remembrance Day commemorations. I was disappointed to find that the Bank of Scotland Headquarters, which had also been floodlit in red the previous evening, was now floodlit in white; and even more disappointed to find the very next day that the crosses had already been removed and the grass covered over with some of the tacky structures making up the Christmas market.
