Newton Cap Viaduct from Newton Cap Bridge
Newton Cap Viaduct from Newton Cap Bridge
The viaduct was built for railway use but became disused in 1968. It had a time as part of a railway path but was converted in the 1990s for road use and now carries the A689 which used to cross the River Wear by the narrow and ancient Newton Cap Bridge from which the image was recorded.
