Cowan Bridge is a village south-east of the town of Kirkby Lonsdale, where the main A65 road crosses the Leck Beck. The village is village most notable for its association with the Brontė Sisters Maria, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Emily having attended the Clergy Daughters' School
