Crown House
House on Marina (no 57), built 1828 designed by James Burton, the man behind the development of St Leonards-on-Sea as a resort. It was the first house built under the scheme, as his own home. The blue plaque on the front reads "Crown House 1828. The first house built by James Burton for his New Town of St Leonards. Princess Victoria stayed here 1834-5." Initially named West Villa, it was later renamed Victoria House following the royal stay before later being given its current name. Deterioration of the building led in 1950 to proposal to demolish it but following listing it was restored in 1951–2 and used as a social club and later a pub, before being converted back into residential use in 2014.
