St John the Baptist’s Church is a Church of England church located in the village of Kirk Hammerton. Its origins are thought to be Saxon Link and it is signposted as “Ancient Church” from the A59 nearby. The Saxon part of the church, which now forms the Lady Chapel is believed to have been built in the 9th century, with the tower being added in around 950AD and alterations were carried out by the Normans around 1150; in 1892 the building was significantly extended. The interior is richly decorated in a Pre-Raphaelite style. The church has links with Kirk Hammerton Church of England Primary School in the village.
The church is a Grade I listed building (English Heritage Building ID: 330646 Link British Listed Buildings).
