One of the reasons for weakness - a smooth slate bedrock that the roots stay on top of in very shallow soil.
Parc y Borth Storm Darragh

A series of photos documenting the enormous damage wreaked by Storm Darragh on December 6th/7th 2024.
Parc y Borth is a community woodland of about 11 hectares, planted in the late eighteenth century. It is mainly oak trees, of a similar age and size, probably intended to provide bark for the local tannery, based nearby on the site of the main building shown in Link
The wood is owned by Gwynedd Council and two Public Rights of Way and a Circular Path off the Wales Coast Path run through the wood. None of these are accessible at the time of posting, January 2025.
Many trees were felled by the storm, and more had their crowns destroyed. The location of each photo, seen on the map, shows the comprehensive extent of the damage.
