The Queen's Stand and the new grandstand from Walton Road
The Queen's Stand and the new grandstand from Walton Road
Building work continues on the new grandstand, which is due to be ready in time for the 2009 Derby (compare with work in progress at December 2007 TQ2158 : Grandstand, Epsom Downs). The post in the foreground marks the southerly limit of the hack area on The Hill. The red cross means that horse riders may not ride on the grass on the side nearer the photographer, and a blue arrow (on the far side, not visible) means that riders may ride freely on the grass beyond the post (this hack area stretches 600m across to the Old London Road bridleway further east). More information about riding on the downs here: LinkExternal link . A vehicle of the Epsom and Walton Downs Conservators' groundsmen can be seen in the valley (cars are not normally allowed here). Walton Road continues to north: TQ2158 : Walton Road and The Hill; to south: TQ2158 : Walton Road.
Walton Road

Walton Road is a partly unsealed minor public road across Epsom Downs, from the Rubbing House near the Queen's Stand, south-east to the foot of Ebbisham Lane; motor traffic is prohibited under a traffic regulation order, except on race days.
