Ashington railway station, Northumberland
Ashington railway station, Northumberland
Opened in 1878 by the Blyth and Tyne Railway on the line from Newcastle to Newbiggin, this station closed in 1964. It was reopened in 2024 by Network Rail as the terminus from Newcastle.
View north. The 1878 station had two platforms on a double track, the southbound platform is still clearly visible to the right of the image. The northbound platform was parallel to it but was cut back to create a new terminus platform for the 2024 station, that is clear of the running lines.
