High Bridge is a medieval street which linked Bigg Market with Pilgrim Street, although no buildings remain from this period. The name comes from a bridge over the Lort Burn which was located where the road dips ahead here. The stream became an open sewer and was diverted underground in the late 17th century. The granite setts are a nice survival from an earlier period.
