Junction of High Bridge with the Bigg Market
Junction of High Bridge with the Bigg Market
Old streets in Newcastle's city centre. High Bridge runs through to Grey Street. On the left corner is Sunlight Chambers, built in 1902 by W and S Owen as offices for Lever Brothers, the makers of Sunlight Soap among other things. The frieze depicts harvest and industry. On the other side is the Beehive Hotel of 1902 by J Oswald and Sons for Newcastle Breweries. It replaced an earlier pub of the same name.
