The Brampton Valley Way is a 14-mile walking and cycling path, following the route of a dismantled railway line linking Northampton with Market Harborough.

The railway had opened in 1859 and had six intermediate stations. It passed through two tunnels, at Kelmarsh and at Oxendon. Regular services over the line were withdrawn in 1960, although the line continued to be used intermittently until 1981 when the final train ran.

Brampton Valley Way forms part of Sustrans' National Cycle Network route 6.

National Cycle Network Route 6 (provided by Burgess Von Thunen)

The National Cycle Network is Sustrans' primary initiative, providing up to 12,600 miles of walking and cycling routes across the country. Routes are numbered in a similar manner to the original A-road numbering system, radiating clockwise from London. The UK is further divided into ten regions, with regional routes numbered in a similar fashion. National Route 6 connects London with the Lake District; one of its branches is Regional Route 68, the Penine Cycleway from Derby to Berwick-on-Tweed.

The Midshires Way (provided by Alan Murray-Rust)

Not as well known as the coastal, Transpennine or Coast-to-Coast paths, this is nevertheless one of the longest of the long distance paths, stretching for 225 miles/362 km between Bledlow in Buckinghamshire and Comstall, Stockport. It passes through Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Greater Manchester.
As a multi-user route, it largely follows bridleways and quiet lanes, but in many places has alternative sections using footpaths away from road traffic.

Macmillan Way (provided by N Chadwick)

A 290 mile route devised to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support to which all proceeds are donated. It runs along sea banks and river banks, from Boston, across the Lincolnshire fens via Stamford, eventually to Abbotsbury on the Dorset Coast. From the fens it follows, as near as possible, the course of the oolitic limestone belt, called 'Cotswold' stone in that area, but found in slightly varying form from South Yorkshire to Dorset.
The Way provides a link with the Viking Way at Oakham, the Thames Path National Trail near Thames Head and with the South West Coast Path National Trail at the finish. It also has a Macmillan Way West (Link ) from Castle Cary to Barnstaple.
