NX9710 : Scorched waymark
taken 1 year ago, near to St Bees, Cumbria, England
Scorched waymark
On the King Charles III England Coast Path and more than 60 metres (70 yards) outside the railway boundary, the burned gorse and scorched waymark bear mute testament to one of over 21 lineside fires between Workington and Drigg, caused by sparks from Battle of Britain class steam locomotive number 34067 Tangmere on the 5th April 2025 as it hauled a special excursion train on the Cumbrian Coast Line.
King Charles III England Coast Path (ECP) (provided by Malc McDonald)
The King Charles III England Coast Path (ECP) will take advantage of new public rights of access to the coast, to form a 2,800 mile long public path right around England's coasts.
Parts of the path were already open in 2016, and it was intended at that time that the whole path would be completed by 2020. At that time, the path was called the England Coast Path. It was renamed King Charles III England Coast Path in 2023, in honour of the King's coronation.
More information about the ECP is on the National Trails website: Link
