Foundation Stone, Ashington Town Hall
On the corner of Station Road and Council Road, the foundation stone of Ashington Town Hall bears the following inscriptions:
FOUNDATION STONE LAID 10TH APRIL 1911 BY COUNCILLOR W MILLER JP CHAIRMAN
and facing Council Road:
RECONSTRUCTED 1937 COUNCILLOR GEORGE BOWEN J.P. CHAIRMAN
The Town Hall (photograph NZ2787 : Station Road) was originally the headquarters of Ashington Urban District Council until 1974. The building is now occupied by Northumberland County Council.
There is an Ordnance Survey flush bracket benchmark on the wall below the foundation stone (detail photograph NZ2787 : Benchmark, Council Offices, Ashington).
