St. James the Great Church, Morpeth
This large and pretty impressive church, which was built between 1842-46, was designed by the architect Benjamin Ferrey in the Romanesque style and is a Grade II* Listed building. The architect was a prolific designer of churches and was described by Charles Eastlake in his 'History of the Gothic Revival' as, "one of the earliest, ablest, and most zealous pioneers of the modern Gothic school" and said his work "possessed the rare charm of simplicity, without lacking interest".
