Designed by North Shields artist Keith Barrett, the purpose of this piece of land artwork is "to provide an observation platform for visitors to the dene, to comfortably observe wildlife activity across its valley, including easy access for wheelchair and mobility scooter users. It is designed and built as an attractive and significant feature within the landscape that imitates fortification, so enhancing the visitors sense of arrival and settlement at the site, as well as indicating the importance and significance of the dene". It was commissioned by the Friends of Brierdene.
