'Book Stack', Northumberland Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Standing beside Ellison Building, this granite stack of 15 books by sculptor Fred Watson was commissioned in 1992 to commemorate the year Newcastle Polytechnic became Northumbria University. The work was officially unveiled by the Duchess of Northumberland. The sculptor Fred Watson was born in 1937 in Dunston, near Gateshead and taught fine art at the University for many years.
