High Bridge, Newcastle Upon Tyne
The Lort Burn was one of several waterways which once flowed through the old town of Newcastle down to the River Tyne and until the steep valley was filled in two bridges, the Upper Dean Bridge and the Nether Dean Bridge, spanned it. The valley was eventually filled in as part of Richard Grainger's reshaping of the city and High Bridge marks the site of the old Upper Dean Bridge and was once dubbed by the local press as, "Newcastle's answer to London's Carnaby Street". It links Pilgrim Street with the Bigg Market crossing Grey Street en route.
