Jesmond Old Cemetery is a Victorian cemetery which contains a number of Listed Buildings and Monuments together with the graves of dozens of notable people connected with the history of the area. The cemetery was designed by renowned North Shields born architect John Dobson who is also buried in the cemetery. This 1836 Dobson-designed entrance archway and the adjoining pair of chapel lodges, along with the cemetery walls and gates, are all Grade II* Listed and were restored in 1978.
