The area of land on which Heaton Park now stands was acquired by the Newcastle Corporation in 1878 prior to which time it had been the grounds of Heaton Hall. This fine balustraded terrace is located in front of the 1884-built pavilion (now used as a Sambuca restaurant) and overlooks a large area of grassed open space.
