St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Church, Heaton Road, Newcastle upon Tyne
This church was built in 1971/72 designed by architect David Brown to fit in with its sensitive location on the edge of Jesmond Dene (Heaton Park). The shape is octagonal with the roof pleated into eight radiating pitches with high gables. A flèche (a slender spire) marks the centre. The simple materials are carefully used with the low walls being of warm-toned Flemish stretcher bond brick and the gables filled with glass. It is pleasing to the eye. The architect David Brown has been described as, "an unsung hero of North East modernist architecture".
