SO5140 : Market Hall entrance from High Town

taken 11 months ago, near to Hereford, County of Herefordshire, England

Market Hall entrance from High Town
Market Hall entrance from High Town
The market hall entrance is in stark contrast to the north entrance. Facing onto the historic open space of Hereford's city centre, the elaborate stonework is a notable feature. The ashlar entrance was designed by John Clayton and opened in around 1860. Note the many details, such as the figure-head keyblock and frieze with triglyphs. The clock is made by J. Smith and Sons, Midland Steam Clock Works, Derby. The Grade II listed structure also has a benchmark on the right side - see SO5140 : Butter Market entrance benchmark.
