SZ6397 : Spit Sand Fort, central courtyard

taken 12 years ago, near to Southsea, Portsmouth, Great Britain

Spit Sand Fort, central courtyard
Spit Sand Fort, central courtyard
The fort is one of four built in the Solent in the 1860s to protect the eastern approaches to Portsmouth Naval Base. Inside it is on three levels. I am standing on the roof level, looking down to the central courtyard around which most of the activity took place, with further steps leading to the lower level where the armaments were stored.
