St Mary's Abbey
The Ruins of St Mary's Abbey in the grounds of the Yorkshire Museum.
St Mary's Abbey, York
The Abbey of St Mary is a ruined Benedictine abbey in what are now the Yorkshire Museum Gardens.
The original abbey on the site was founded in 1055. The surviving ruins date back to the rebuilding programme begun in 1271 and finished by 1294.
The abbey was closed during Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries and was subsequently destroyed.
The remains are Grade I-listed (Historic England List Entry Number: 1257128 Link
