Roll of Honour sculpture, New Fancy View
Roll of Honour sculpture, New Fancy View
Sculpted by Graham Tyler and John Wakefield and erected in 2005, the 3 elements depict stone, iron and coal. Stone is depicted by a slab of Forest of Dean bedrock, iron by pre-rusted fabricated steel and coal by carved and blackened Dean oak. Stainless steel discs are set in to the inside faces to represent the tokens or tags carried by miners of more recent times to show who is underground at a given time. The sculpture is to honour those who lost their lives in the coal and iron mines and the quarries of the Forest of Dean.
