The current promenade was built in 1959-61 replacing an earlier wooden one. Furthur work was carried out in 1982. It is about 5 kilometres (3 miles) in length, stretching north from Silloth town centre to Skinburness. It offers views across the Solway Firth to Dumfries and Galloway.
