Decapitated windmill, Skidby
Decapitated windmill, Skidby
Less than five years after a restoration which involved removal of its cap and fantail (seen shortly after replacement here: TA0233 : Still sail-less Skidby Mill) the 200-year old Skidby Mill is once more topless. The protracted refurbishment, which even local councillors are now calling a 'saga', was originally to have been completed four years ago with the re-fitting of new/repaired sails. This now seems unlikely in the near future. Some idea of the complexities involved can be seen in this BBC News story: LinkExternal link

The mill has formerly been in its current state during one of its previous restorations; see: TA0233 : Skidby Windmill during cap restoration.
