St Swithin's church - east window
St Swithin's church is very small, with its round tower (rebuilt in 1849) being the narrowest in England; the church is extensively restored. Medieval survivals are a couple of benches and bench ends with (restored) animal carvings > Link ; the bench next to the south doorway carries the date 1531; it and has carvings depicting shields and initials, and the symbols of the wounds of Christ > Link. The tomb chest of Honor Bacon who, in 1591, died on the morning of her wedding day, is located in the southeastern corner of the sanctuary > Link. The east window (seen here), dating from the early 19th century, is by William Morris & Co. The church is open every day. For more information see: LinkExternal link
