View to Walltown Crags
A splendid view of the outstanding landscape which originates from the Great Whin Sill. The inclination of the intrusion, which follows the bedding of sedimentary rocks of Carboniferous age, is indicated clearly. The sloping ground formed by the upper contact of the sill results from the subsequent weathering and erosion of the softer sedimentary rocks. Sadly, the durable microgabbro has been much in demand and quarried extensively.
