The Red Squirrel Trail, 32 miles of mostly traffic-free cycling through the heart of the Isle of Wight’s beautiful countryside. The trail takes in estuaries, woodland, farmland, downland, and a stretch of the Island’s fantastic coastline.

Newport to Cowes Railway

The Newport to Cowes railway was a line that ran on the Isle of Wight, opening in 1862 and closing in 1966. The former route is now a popular walking and cycling path known as the Red Squirrel Trail, which follows the path of the old railway for 4.5 miles alongside the Medina Estuary.

National Cycle Network route 23

National Cycle Network route 23 is a north-south route linking Reading, Basingstoke, Winchester and Southampton. There is a further section on the Isle of Wight from the ferry terminal at East Cowes to Wroxall, passing through Cowes, Newport and Shanklin. The Isle of Wight section forms part of the Red Squirrel Trail.
