The war memorial commemorates the fallen of the First and Second World Wars. The architect was William Douglas Caröe (1857–1938) who was also the architect, among other buildings, of St David's Church, Exeter (1900), No 1 Millbank, London, which was built for the Church Commissioners in 1903, Cardiff University main building (1905–1909) and St Michael's Church, Chiswick (1909).
