The Red Squirrel Trail, 32 miles of mostly traffic-free cycling through the heart of the Isle of Wight’s beautiful countryside. The trail takes in estuaries, woodland, farmland, downland, and a stretch of the Island’s fantastic coastline.
The Newport to Cowes railway was a line that ran on the Isle of Wight, opening in 1862 and closing in 1966. The former route is now a popular walking and cycling path known as the Red Squirrel Trail, which follows the path of the old railway for 4.5 miles alongside the Medina Estuary.
